Chapter 5 of 5
After
Kept · 148 words · about 1 min
The log is closed. The habit isn't — one noticed thing a day, kept going past the deadline, because a practice doesn't have a finish line, only a person who keeps coming back.
Here's what the month left in me. I set out to prove that listening and remembering aren't just service to other people, that they're a body of work someone can own. That part worked: this book is the proof, and it's mine.
But the truer thing the month taught is smaller. The keeping that mattered most wasn't the finished piece. It was the mug, the lamp, the kettle, the blanket with the hook still in its live edge — all the things that arrived unchosen and stayed because nobody sent them away. Including you.
*For her — who kept the mug before I explained it, who was in the log the whole time.*
